VOICEWORKS PAST

Formed in 2002 'Voiceworks' started life as the brain child of Musical Director, Colin Lewis: as a mixed vocal group based in the Highlands of Scotland performing solos, duets, trios and ensembles from the world of musical theatre.

Voiceworks choir developed its choral blend and extensive repertoire of many genres of music, benefiting from four highly talented Musical Directors and one amazing accompanist Mairi Mackenzie. All of our M.D.s have been classically trained as singers and talented musicians with outstanding conducting skills. Each M.D. has brought their own distinct passion for music and the choir has enjoyed the opportunity to explore our M.D.'s favorite genres of music.

In 2012, when Colin moved away from the Highlands, local choir member and professional musician Kathleen Cronie took up the baton.

In 2015, when Kathleen also moved away to further study music, the choir was fortunate to enlist another professional musician and teacher, John Stuart, as our M.D.

In 2017, a clear pattern emerges, as John also relocates away (to take up a post back to his home town). Professional singer, music teacher and voice coach, Christopher Josie, then took up the baton.

In 2021, with the covid pandemic social distancing restriction (which had also led to the choir unable to meet for over a year) Christopher's work commitments changed so he could no longer continue as MD.

We continue to enjoy our good fortune of rehearsing iconic music together, and sharing choral music and performance pieces with our evergreen accompanist, and M.D., Mairi MacKenzie. And, of course, celebrating music and choral moments with our wonderfully supportive audiences.
