During 2009, in that twelve month period, 227 Gender Recognition Certificates were issued. The average wait for your application to be considered is 16 weeks, down from 20. If you are turned 60 when you apply, this will cost you 16- 20 weeks out of your State Pension. The certficate takes effect from date of approval and is not issued retrospectively, not back dated to date of application.
