Book and help
I copied and posted a short quote from your book on 7 Squadron. He had a great uncle killed in a raid on 28/29 June 1942. Any chance that you could have more information than he can find on the web which is basically date and that his great uncle was killed. I did order your book on the RAF Training Scheme. I will also be looking at your other publications.

Sgt. Reginald Woollard, service number 1381873. The information in your book is pretty close to what the fellow already knew. He may have found it in your publication or online.

Short Stirling I, serial W7539, coded MG-K, 7 Squadron. Took off 28 June 1942 from Oakington for St. Nazaire, apparently bombed on Gee, then crashed or shot down in the Bay of Biscay.

7 Squadron book image
Hi Tom

I bought your book on 7 Squadron for my mum. She is thrilled with it! She and my dad John Gilbet Miles were in 7 Squadron throughout the war.

She spotted a photo of John on page 162 of your book. I was wondering if you had a scan of same that you could send me so I could get it blown up and image enhanced for her?
Many thanks
Barry

C2A's
Tom, In July 1966 I received orders to Pax River where we pulling BIS inspection on the C2A's. I was in the Navy and was an ADR1 at that time. The brass said we would deliver the X'mas mail in country by Dec. '66. We rode the Big "E" out of Alamedia with three planes. 152786,152787 and 152788. We arrived in the P.I on Dec. 6th, I think. The next day were delivering the mail. I stayed with them til May 1970. Of course, I know many stories about C2A's.

Hello Fred, many thanks for responding to my request for help. Can you clarify a couple of things for me. I am not familiar with USN acronyms! What is BIS and ADR1? I assume P.I. is the Philippines? Where are you referring to by 'in country' - Vietnam? I would like to hear your C-2A stories please. Here is my list of questions you may be able to answer: I am hoping to get responses from C-2A/C-2A(R) pilots and loadmasters and ground crews about:

The flying characteristics of the C-2.
Was it an easy aircraft to fly?
What were the dangers of flying the type - could you get into trouble easily on the edge of its flight envelope?
Was the cockpit ergonomically easy to work in or was it a bit like being a one-armed paper hanger?
What was its strongest virtue?
What was its greatest vice?

I would also appreciate stories of combat operations, exercises, close calls in training and/or poor weather. Also any photos, particularly air-to-air shots you may have. Tales of high pressure operations during various conflicts involving the C-2 units. As well as anything liked or disliked about the Greyhound.

From ground crew I would like to know about the ease or difficulty of maintaining the aircraft. What was the worst job to complete? What became unserviceable most often keeping the aircraft on the ground? Tales of high pressure operations for the ground crew during various conflicts and operations.

Yours aye

Tom

C-2 Greyhound
I saw a recent post in The Hook magazine regarding your interest in the C-2 Greyhound. I am a retired US Navy Chief Petty Officer (AMSC) and spent nearly 10 years maintaining and flying the aircraft in the 80s and 90s.

I have nearly 2000 flight hours as a Loadmaster and In-Flight Plane Captain coupled with maintaining the aircraft when not performing flight crew duties.

I would be willing to provide any information and photos regarding the aircraft from my operational experiences with the C-2.

Yours sincerely
