In today's world, communication is everywhere and in every shape and form. However its one of the older forms of communication which puzzles this grumpy old man.

Its jewellery. Ladies jewellery is well established and I'm fairly comfortable with most of the conventional stuff and what it says. (But ankle bracelets, what's all that about, what are the wearers telling the world? Maybe best I remain in glorious ignorance on that one)

I'll cut to the chase (Yes, please do, I hear you scream.)

What about the (mature) males who sport a variety of rings in their ears, nose, lips and probably other places too disgusting to mention? Probably topped off with a shaved head - what's the message? This thought was sparked off by one gent I came across with 4 (yes four!) rings crammed into one ear lobe. This chap undoubtedly had a message for the rest of the world and he had adjudged that this grotty collection of brass rings in his lug was the way to spread the word.

Now, its not just his friends he wants to tell, otherwise he could have sent a text, email, made a phone call or even popped in for a chat and told them face to face. Nope, he wants to tell me, Joe Public, all about it. For me, he's failed - I don't get it. Perhaps he should carry a placard as he sashays down the street with the message in bold capitals for the benefit of all us Joes.
