Beautifully Stunning Beaches
A little know fact is that the Isle of Lewis and Harris has many wonderful beaches for to explore and enjoy relaxing or partaking is sea fishing or water sports such as surfing.
Some of the most commonly visited beaches are detailed below
The Braighe Beaches
The Braighe beaches can be found on either side off the main road to point and is a small stretch of land connecting the two parts of the island. There is a car park on the left hand side of the road with toilet facilities as you leave Stornoway .
Coll beach
This beach is located just off the main B895 road to Tolsta and you will see it on your right hand side, approximately five miles Stornoway and easily accessible by road or by bus. Suitable for walking, fishing, surfing, barbecues etc .
Tolsta Beaches
Follow the B895 to Tolsta to will find these excellent beaches. The long beach, Traigh Mhor, is popular with surfers. Garry Beach has sea stacks and caves to explore when the tide is out and is one of the most beautiful beaches available just a short drive from Stornoway.
Ness Beach
Ness is the most northerly village on Lewis and Ness Beach, its most northerly beach. Ness has both wet day and dry day activities, including a sports centre and ‘world class’ play park located on the western shore and dunes. . You can enjoy both the lovely sandy beach or explore the many rock when the tide is out as well as visit the local harbour.
Dalmore and Dalbeg
Lying to the north of Carloway (home to an Iron Age broch) on the west side of Lewis. Great for fishing or surfing with toilets available at Dalmore has better parking and toilets.
Bosta Beach
Bosta Beach lies at the top north-west corner of Great Bernera, which is accessed via a bridge on the B8059. This is where a restored Iron Age house can be found.
Uig Bay (ARDROIL BEACH, VALTOS BEACH, ETC)
The main access to Ardroil Beach is through the village of Ardroil on the south side of Uig Bay. Also explore the beaches north of Uig Bay such as Kneep, Valtos and Reef Beach. These three beaches can be found by turning right off the B8011 and turning right at the end of Loch Roag. The single track road forms a large loop passing these beaches along the way.
Huisinish Beach, Isle of Harris
Located north of Tarbert and often overlooked by visitors. Drive through Tarbert and follow the main road until you see a junction signposted west to Huisinish on the B887. Follow this single track road to the beach at the end.
Luskentyre, Isle of Harris
Luskentyre is one of the most fantastic beaches found on the Isle of Harris and some say one of the best in the world. Named as one of the UK’s best beaches in many awards including trip TripAdvisor.
Boasting miles of white sands and stunning turquoise waters it can be found by following the A859 south from Tarbert for 8 miles then turn right at the sign for Luskentyre following this road until you reach the car park.
SCARISTA BEACH, Isle of Harris
Scarista is largest beach on Harris and accessed from various points along the A859. Miles of perfect sands for all day enjoyment and memories that will last forever.
