Salmhütte is a high Alpine hut located in the mountain range of Glockner Group, which is a part of the Hohe Tauern Alps. It lies on the southeast side of the Grossglockner is the oldest high Alpine guest house in the Eastern Alps. The hut was built in 1799 by the Prince-Bishop Franz Xaver von Salm Reifferscheid and renovated in 1855 and 1926 serving from its beginning as a shelter for the first climbers of Grossglockner. Today it belongs to the Austrian Alpine Club – Vienna Branch and is still one of the major shelter on the highest mountain of Austria, Grossglockner. It is open from mid-June to late September.
The best access path to the hut leads from Lucknerhaus (1,918 m) via another high Alpine hut Glorerhütte in Berger Törl, from which there is only one hour walk to Salmhütte. Another trial starts from Glocknerhouse (2,132 m), which is accessible via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Also there is a path to the hut leading from the Franz-Josefs-Höhe and Heiligenblut, which is very easy to walk.

15 August 2009 - There was a beautiful sunny day when I reached the hut with H. walking from Glorerhütte and back. It was one of the most amazing trial I walked in the Hohe Tauern.
