REPAIRING SCRATCHES

Eventhough  strand woven bamboo flooring has a Janka Hardness Rating higher than oak, ash and maple and is very durable, it is no different to any other hardwood flooring in that sooner or later it is going to get scratched, marked and dented. If furniture legs don't have pads, or dogs and cats use their paws, or you drop something heavy then your flooring is bound to need a bit of repairing from time to time.

There are two advisable ways to repair a scratch to strand woven bamboo flooring.

The first is to contact the suplier of your flooring and purchase a scratch repair kit. This has the advantage making sure the repair kit will match the color of your floor and making sure a good job is done.

However, if you didn't buy your strand woven bamboo flooring from a local or national dealer it might prove difficult to get a scratch repair kit.

Just as good is a stain pen. A stain pen with a color to match your flooring color should be available at your local DIY or Home Store.

If the scratch is shallow than the stain pen should do a perfectly good job touching up your strand woven bamboo flooring. In the event that the scratch is deeper it is a good idea to sand out the hole and then add wood putty. Once the putty is dry, sand the surface to even and use a stain pen to match the colors. Let the stain pen dry and then coat with polyurethane.

It is important to use polyurethane because it seals the bamboo and prevent moisture from warping your strand woven bamboo flooring.

So the main points:

  • Contact your supplier
  • Ask for a scratch repair kit
  • If not use a stain pen
  • If deep then use wood putty
  • Coat with polyurethane
