Former & first leg shapeI first worked out the size and shape of the former, this was attached to the base board so a sweeping rotational arc could smooth a half round shape in the ruff wet plaster. | Refinning the leg shapeThe half round leg(plug) was further refined using plaster of paris, this I sanded between coats untill I was happy with the shape. |
Spraying the leg.The leg was sprayed with 7 coats of high build filler under coat then with 7-10 coats of standard primer all being sanded between coats, this was finished off with 10 coats of gloss red spray paint. | The half round mould was pulled from the plaster former(plug) by slowly driving wedges around the base between former and mould. |
Fibre glassing the plugThe finish plug had 7 coats of wax. Once waxed I covered the leg shape with two coats of resin & fibreglass. | In the previous stage I had a slight problem with the mould reacting with the paint from the plug, which I remedied by filling, sanding and spraying the mould until I had a suitable finish. |
Finished mould in frameThe finished mould supported in ply wood frame, waxed and ready for the liquid rubber. | Half of first latex legFinished first half of a rubber leg with 2 reinforced 25mm wide braids for added support of leg. |
Gluing first legs together.Gently gluing the two halves of leg together. | Finish whole legFinished leg being hung up by reinforcement straps. |
