Stephanie is a British Paralympic Swimmer who represents Great Britain
At the London 2012 Paralympic Games she won an amazing five medals, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze. She returned from the Paralympic World Championships in Montreal in 2013 as a four-time World Champion. She is part of Team GB.
Stephanie was diagnosed with MS in 1999 and this prevented her from being able to compete in the Sydney 2000 Olympics where she would have swam in the 100m Backstroke for Great Britain. Her dreams were crushed. She picked herself up re-educated herself to stand, walk , run then swim and started training hard to be part of the 2008 Beijing Games. Unfortunately she did not get a podium place at this Paralympics. She trained at Swansea and in the London 2012 Games she got her first Paralympic Medals. She won four Silver medals in 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle and the 4x100m Medley Relay and one Bronze in the 4x100m Freestyle relay. She won the most medals of any athlete at the Olympic and Paralympic 2012 Games.
Stephanie now trains at Bath University.
Stephanie currently holds the World Record for the 50m Backstroke, European Record for the 100m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle and the 400m Freestyle and is the British Record holder for the 100m Butterfly. She has, with her relay team mates, broken the World Record for the 4x100 Relay Medley at the World Championships in Montreal.
Stephanie carried the Olympic Torch through Liverpool on its relay across Britain. She was also part of the Coca Cola judging panel that chose the Olympic Torch Bearers.
Stephanie is involved in teaching horse riding for disabled adults and children and throughly enjoys this aspect of her life.
Stephanie has written her autobiography which will be appropriately called “Paying the Price”.The release date is 6th November 2014!
