Helen Whamond was born and lives in Angus. She graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1993, having completed a BA(Hons)Fine Art - Drawing and Painting. She then became involved in teaching art at evening classes and also with youth work in Dundee, using graffiti art with groups.
Helen completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Education in1995 and then worked in many youth and community work settings in Dundee and Angus, with a strong focus on community arts. She has taught art classes for Dundee and Angus College since 2001, and does workshops and demonstrations for Art Societies in a wide range of materials and subjects. She graduated from Stirling University in 2009 with a Postgraduate Certificate Teaching Qualification in Further Education as part of her work.
Helen enjoys experimenting in her art and works in all drawing and painting materials. She is particularly interested in conveying the atmosphere and light of local landscapes, people and place. Her work has been exhibited in private and public galleries and exhibitions locally, and has been involved in group and solo exhibitions. She won a prize at the Meffan winter exhibition 2007 in Forfar. Her work is in private collections here and abroad, including France and Canada.
