Bird Ringing on Sanda

There may be opportunities for experienced ringers and ringers in training to visit Sanda at times when Observatory ringers are on the island.

There are usually two main seabird ringing periods. The first is the last week in June and the first week in July, mainly for ringing auk, gull, and shag chicks and adults, but also storm petrels and resident passerines.

The second period is the end of July into August, concentrating on Manx Shearwaters, Fulmars, Storm Petrels and passerines.

2012 SEABIRD RINGING COURSES

With the island under new management, the signs look good for  the re-instatement of our seabird ringing courses. Visits are planned for the weeks beginning 23 June, 30 June and 28 July.

Accommodation on the island is at the lightjouse cottages. Contact us by email a.s.a.p. if you wish to join us. The cost is £350, including transport to the island, food and rings.
