France - St Malo to Daxby Unknown - 20:26 on 03 August 2008Oh, today (the 2nd) was just painful.
St Malo to Rennes was fine, but then.....
I know the French all go on their holidays in August and the French all go west and south west (except those who go south).
I got stuck in 2 huge jams around Nantes, 2 more around Niort, and everything between Bordeaux and Bayenne was F***cking slow slow slower slower slower slow. My joints ached and screamed for mercy. My right knee, my right hand, my shoulders, my neck...all wanted to stop.
I reached Dax around 19:00.
On the way I learned:
- French bikers who pass you say thanks by waving their right legs.
- The French have lots of gorgeous sunflower farms down south, all the cute litle pre-pubescent and young teenager flowers moving their heads together in an amazing synchronised dance. Although where they thought the sun was I don't know. Maybe they moved by habit. The weather was shocking until I got to the Bordeaux and beyond area. Rain, rain, rain and wind wind...which reminds me.

- French wind turbines are actually stationery in the wind OR
- French wind turbines move at a set speed regardless of the wind strength (in fact what's the point of them - they are not being blown round by the wind, and why don't they have blades like windmills).
- Dax Ibis hotel is full of obnoxious self important pumped up horrible staff, and some dirty old women.
