Introductions and Christmas

by Admin - 09:09 on 11 October 2007
October's arrived with a number of mist strewn still mornings. Cobwebs are art, dewdrops and condensation form a join the dots of immense proportions and Christmas is everywhere (even though, we've not yet 'enjoyed' Hallowe'en nor Fireworks night).

However, the early darkness and grey mornings beckon the party season - the way we get through autumn and winter in this country. And with the party season come discos and music quizzes.

I had such fun preparing a recent birthday party quiz. One thing I did notice, as the customer asked for 5 Beat the Intro questions and I decided to do them by decade, was how non-existent were intros to current music. The introduction is disappearing!!!! So many songs have a minimal introduction before the singing starts - and that's just pop songs. When you listen to any genre of dance music, the vocals are almost always immediate. Is this because we have such short attention spans we need to get the audience/listener's ear immediately?Fortunately, other than introductions, the music of the last few years (in my opinion) has become so much better with far fewer 'processed' boy and girl bands and far more talent and imagination across all genres.

So...back to the quizzes.

If you run a club or pub or organisation, the music quiz can give the evening a really enjoyable start.

  • First of all, it breaks the ice perfectly and people are talking to one another instantly. No more pre-alcohol awkward silence to endure for an hour or so.
  • Second, as these are not just pub quiz questions, but rather high quality music clips to listen to they spark memories and comments and good feelings among the contestants, especially as the clips cover all ages and all genres of music.

Give your colleagues, customers, friends a treat - give them the Rogettes Christmas Music Quiz
