Changes to River Allan following floods
Reporter - Heike from Stirling Canoe Club Just back from paddling the Allan with Andy. The level was much lower then yesterday and dropping now, but it was still good fun (sort of up to park level at getout, but not lapping into the park) There were lots of interesting things to look at on the way: First bridge after Ashfield, huge tree on it, use left hand shoot, the middle to right side is blocked by a monster tree. Second bridge: a tree is stuck in the middle sticking in to both left and right shoots, but can be navigated at either side with care, could be bad on right side in higher water though. Then, a bit further where river splits into two braids, we took the right as usual and paddled over a tree which was fine, but could be an obstacle in low water. Next up is the broken weir which is......gone???? There was huge chunks ripped out on the left embankment and there was nothing there, just a little wave. So I assume that the weir is no more. The rest of the trip was as normal (a part from huge chunks of tree handing about everywhere!)
