Black Isle community in head to head bid for Peoples Millions funding for new community sports court
Resolis Sports Club on the Black Isle near Inverness are to be on national TV to appeal for funding to build a multi-sports court at Newhall, Resolis.

The club hope to be awarded £57,000 from the Big Lottery fund that will be used to build an all-weather multi sports court at the heart of the parish for young and old to use. They will be going head to head against an Aberdeen group in a phone-in vote.

Filming of the community group took place recently with young and old taking part in appealing to the public to support them (see picture).

Alex Beaton who recently celebrated his 80th birthday said “The 50th anniversary of Resolis Hall is coming up next year on May 9th and we hope to provide a sports court for the kids in the parish. I can remember helping in clearing the site in 1958 to build the hall and playing field  I hope we can raise the money to improve the facilities in our anniversary year “

The vote will take place on Monday November 24th on STVs North Tonight at 6pm with the short film by the kids on the regional news.

People can vote for the Black Isle group from 9am until midnight on Monday 24th November – www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/peoplesmillions  has the telephone number to call. The number will also be shown on north tonight at 6pm during the appeal.
Rose Shirvani treasurer of the Resolis Community Council said “This is a fantastic community but we can be a bit isolated. Many people have to make a 20 mile round trip to a sports facility to play a game of tennis, football, basketball or netball. With this on our doorstep we can get people, both young and old, out and getting fit throughout the year. “

The campaign has been running for 2 years and the group have raised several thousand pounds. Imogen Young chair of the Sports Club said ‘The kids of the parish and Resolis Primary have been working really hard fund raising and putting a film together for TV. It’s great to see them being creative in their fund raising campaign and staying so positive despite some funding set backs.  Kids often get a bad press and I just hope people vote for them as it would make such a difference to them and the wider community.”
