SPORTS CLUB WIN IN STV APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE

Article in Ross-shire Journal Nov 2008

 Alex (80) leads sporting campaign
ONE of the oldest residents of a small Black Isle community is appealing to TV viewers to vote to help them win a bid for £57,000 of lottery money to finance a new sports pitch which they hope to build in time for next year's 50th anniversary of the village hall.
Alex Beaton, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, can clearly remember taking part in clearing the site for the hall 50 years ago.
Mr Beaton said, "The 50th anniversary of Resolis Hall is coming up next year on May 9 and we hope to provide a sports court for the kids in the parish. I can remember helping in clearing the site in 1958 to build the hall and playing field. I hope we can raise the money to improve the facilities in our anniversary year."
Mr Beaton joined other members of the community, young and old, in filming a public appeal to attract votes to win a share in lottery funding which will be broadcast on Monday.
Resolis Sports Club has been chosen as one of eight teams to take part in The People's Millions competition which will be broadcast on STV next week.
The club hope to be awarded £57,000 from the Big Lottery to go towards building an all-weather multisports court at the heart of the community.
It will be going head-to-head against an Aberdeen group in the phone-in poll and the group who attracts the most votes wins the cash.
The short film will be shown on North Tonight at 6pm and viewers can vote for the Black Isle group from 9am until midnight on Monday.
