01 October 2010 THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL In September a football forum took place in Broadford ,the reason for this meeting was to see what football was available and being played in our area. A list of strengths and weaknesses was drawn up and the SYFA and Highland coaching went away to discuss and make a plan for the future of football in Skye & Lochalsh. One point that was raised was the pathway for kids in football ,that it needed some fine turning. What is meant by the term pathway? Well this a path that the SFYA would like to see all children take ,starting of at 6 years old with the desire to play ,fun fours i.e 4v4 games no goalies just lots of goals. Then the next stage would be 9 to 12 years old Learning to play, Dribbling basic skills ball control and fun games fours and sevens.also to learn about nutrition and hydration. Then as a player you move developing as a player 12 to 16 years old.In this stage you work on power strength skill and game competence .Then you should be ready for the next level 16 to 18 which is preparing to compete here you focus on core skills and tactical aspects of the game. The final stage is preparing to win ,and becoming the all around athlete and have that winning performance. This pathway is what is needed in our area because if we do not have this our game will fade away and the children will not have the joy like i had playing football.
