Pedal, Percussion & Pipes
Alan Ashton started in show busness as a cinema projectionist at his local cinema and later at Granada Television. For many years he presented a radio show on BBC Radio Manchester under the banner of PEDAL, PERCUSSION and PIPES.
His love for cinema, theatre and electronic organs is revealed on this website with his skill with graphics as he goes back in time to highlight organists who entertained cinema goers and radio listeners.
Sadly such a visual skill hardly ever appeared on television with the exception of Brian Sharp on BBC Pebble Mill at One, Harry Stoneham on the BBC Michael Parkinson show and Jerry Allan and his trio with his lunchtime show - all around thirty years ago.
This website will be, for many, a cherished memory of a golden era in entertainment where the player was a one man/women orchestra or certainly the main figure in a group.
As for Alan himself, he is still broadcasting on Organ 1st Radio in the form of a monthly Internet podcast - see LINKS in menu.
