Ever wondered what we do all winter?
Chatting to one of our berth-holders on the ferry the other day, I discovered that he never realised all we do for the boats at the marina in winter, so we thought you too might be interested.
At least once a month, a check is made of all the boats on the hardstanding, pontoons & moorings. We check the boats are clean and dry, that the bilges are dry, nothing is loose or flapping about and that any de-humidifiers & heaters are working.
Although it is a lot calmer now, if there is a bad forecast, we will also check lines and fenders, and check again for flapping.
We drink a lot more hot chocolate than we do in the summer.
When the boats first came out, we pressure washed them and, if requested, winterised them & filled the diesel tanks. Through the winter we do the other requested jobs, such as anode replacement, fibreglass, engine & electrical work and painting.
The sunshine that appeared the other day has prompted a few owners to get in touch about re-launches. This means we are now planning this along with the anti-fouling that needs to be done before launch.
