NO NOT THAT No 6

Finding the right bus service in a strange or unfmailiar town can be a bit daunting a the best of times but Arriva and D&G have managed to make it even more difficult for passengers trying to get a bus to Shavington.

Following a change over at the beginning of the year we now have two very different No 6 services. The D&G version is the traditional long standing route from Leighton Hospital in the north across town via the bus station and then out to Shavington. The Arriva version (fomrely the D&G 6A) goes from teh bus station along thde same route as fars as Gresty Road and then does a loop around the Brookhouse Lane estate before returning to the bus station.

These are commercial services outside the control of Cheshire East and so we have written to the Traffic Commissioner (she is not on e-mail) and asked her to resolve the issue.

The new D&G No 6 no longer calls at the Station nor does it use the north end of Gresty Road by Rail House so passengers now face a much longer walk to and from the nearest stops on Nantwich Road, very difficult for the less able especially in inclement weather. We understand that this change has come about because the Traffic Commissioner has imposed much tighter rules on bus operators as regards the definition of lateness which can result in the company being fined. These new rules may be Ok in large cities which can afford bus lanes and sophisticated bus priority schemes at traffic lights but not in situations such as rush hour traffic around the Weston Road roundabout.
