BUDGET GIVES PENSIONERS - NOTHING

The Chancellor has again refused to update older peoples age allowance. This means that in effect he is clawing back most of the increase in state pension due to come in in April.

From 2014 single pensioners with income from £10,000 to £25,000, the majority, will be no better off. Those with £30000 will be £18 per month bettter off and those with income over £35,000 will be £22 per month better off.

Pensioner couples will be no better off unless their income is over £40000. By failing to index the allowance, the average pensioner is actually worse off whilst richer pensioners will be better off.
