Following on from our earlier story, Cheshire East Council have now issued contradictory advice. After saying no-one would call round from the Council to check on single occupancy, they have now sent out letters to many households advising them that a surveyor will be calling wishing to inspect their house and would they please let them in!
This is unbelievable!! We have already had one member report some one turning up claiming to be from the council but with no ID card.
Our advice is quite simple. Don't let anyone into your home unless they have telephoned to make a prior appointment and you have rung back their office to double check.
Remember these people have NO RIGHT to demand entry and don't give nay personal details over the phone.
