SELECT COMMITTEE SLATES BROADBAND TAX

The House of Commons Select Committee for business has roundly criticised the governments proposal for a £6.00 levy on every telephone line to pay for the expansion of broadband into rural areas.

In its report the committee describes the tax as regressive and unfair. It also states there is actually very little demand for the service and the government's plans are not likely to achieve their targets.

We welcome this support for our opposition to the plans and hope now the broadband tax will be dropped from the budget.
