Meeting Report
Sept 29th 2009
Over 40 members met in Crewe Library for the monthly meeting of the Northern Pensioners Association Crewe & District.
Guest speaker was Frank Ward from Age Concern Cheshire who gave a detailed presentation on the forthcoming switchover to digital TV in the Granada region. Frank explained why and when the change was happening, with emphasis on the need to prepare early.
Any TV can be converted with the right equipment and Frank explained the help scheme available to the over 75’s and those on Pension Credit and some other benefits. Frank very kindly stayed on to answer individual questions after the meeting.
There were also reports to the meeting regarding the PCT AGM, the latest Police Forum and the North West Pensioners Association. Members were dismayed to hear that the government intends to press ahead with the £6.00 levy on telephone landlines to fund broadband expansion.
The Chairlady described her visit to the official opening of Mill House in Nantwich at the kind invitation of Wulvern Housing.
Arrangements are well advanced for a Xmas lunch to be held at the Crewe Arms Hotel on Tuesday 1st December. Final bookings will be taken at the next meeting which is on Tuesday 27th October.
