£6.00 Surcharge on Telephone Lines

The government has announced it is to go ahead with its plan to introduce a £6.00 yearly surcharge on all telephon landlines to pay for the expansion of broadband into rural areas.

This will hit pensioners on low incomes who already pay an £18.00 surcharge becasue they cannot pay by direct debit. They also cannot afford broadband in the first place. Better off peole who use mobile phones will not pay anything, and many people who livein rural areas are very affluent nd have chosen to live there for "lifestyle" reasons.

If you think this is unfair, let us know via our contact page and e-mail our local MP

If there is enough support we may launch a campaign to refuse to pay.
