Neath Railway Station

Our Railway Station

This is what visitors see when they arrive in Neath

On 1st April 2013 the Neath Guardian website looked at railways in China.  Now we look at the railway here in Neath

Station front - looks well kept - or is it?

If you are disabled you are advised not to arrive in Neath after 8:00pm

If you use the stairs, mind the rubbish.

Watch your step!

What this on the hand rail?

When we get to the platform what do we see?

More rubbish on the tracks!

Correction

A reader has written to tell us that the lift referred to above is NOT intended for disabled persons.   The reader writes as follows:-

"After reading your article and looking at the photographs of Neath Railway Station I must point out that the lift is not for access from the station for disabled people. I am a disabled person and the only way I can get from one platform to another or get to exit the station if arriving from the easterly direction is to wait for the guard to unlock the gate and cross the line. Otherwise the only other option is to go up and down the steps across the line.

The lift operates from the car park behind the station to the carpark at the front of the station. There is only access through the gate into the car park at the back of the station when the station is unmanned. So if I come into the railway station at midnight I have to go up approximately 24 metal steps through the tunnel and down another approximately 24 metal steps before walking down the platform and through the opened gate into the forecourt. This is not a pleasant experience on an unmanned station.

If I exit the station platform through the unlocked gate into the Milland Road Carpark the lift is closed (when it is working that is)so if I wanted to get to the forecourt I would have to walk out of the car park into the road, under the railway tunnel and up the side of the Kentucky Fried Chicken shop to access the forecourt of the Railway Station. A horrendous experience late at night."
