William Squires
William Squires was a brilliant Shakespearean actor he was also a great film actor appearing in films such as Lord of the Rings, Battle of the River Plate, Where Eagle Dare, Bond films, he also appeared in many TV shows, he was a friend of Richard Burton acted with him a number of times, appeared as Sir Thomas More opposite Burton who played Henry V111 In “Anne of the Thousand Days, he appeared in Camelot, he was one of the best actors this country has produced, he died in1989.


William Squires who was born in Florence Street part of which was demolished to make way for the link road. which is the street adjacent to the link road, he was born in Florence street in 29th April 1916 as a matter of fact his sister was still living in the house with her Husband until she passed on last year she had lived there for 95, yes 95 years,

Maudie Edwards born 16th Oct 1906 Neath died 24th March 1991 in London Actress, Singer, and Comedian

Born in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales, Edwards had a talent for comedy and formed her own repertory company, The Maudie Edwards Players, who performed in the Palace Theatre, Swansea. In films of the 1940s, she provided a singing voice for stars such as Diana Dors and Margaret Lockwood. She made her first screen appearance in 1936 and her last in 1972. In 1950, she appeared on stage with Frank Sinatra at the London Palladium. She played Elsie Lappin in the first two episodes of British soap opera Coronation Street in 1960 and was the first performer to speak during the first scene in the show's history: "Now the next thing you've got to do is to get a sign writer in - that thing above the door'll have to be changed."

In 1911 the census show the Edwards family living in Briton Ferry Road, Melyn, Neath.
