NPT - The Mayor (2017/2018)
We announce with much saddness the suddern death of Clr Janice Dudley, The Mayor of NPT, while attendiing a function on Aberavan Beach on 19th August 2017. We extend our sympathy to her nearest and dearest.
The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot is a traditional annual appointment. Councillors take turns to fill the post, which is based on length of service as an elected councillor. The appointed Mayor carries out ceremonial duties as a representative of the council.
There is no political significance attached to the role, which has no administrative powers in council affairs. The Mayor can often be something of a role model and during the term supports a charity of his/hers choice.
The inauguration ceremony, when one mayor hands over the chains of office to the deputy, takes places in the month of May each year at the Princess Theatre at Aberavan. This is followed by a buffet for all those attending the event.
The NPT Mayor for 2017/2018 is Councillor Jance Dudley (pictured) who was first elected as a council member in 2004.
