GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE MEDIA AGENDA

The Media Agenda is a non governmental organization (NGO) that shall at all times focus on the promotion and welfare of the media in its totality. The NGO will principally have as its objective: help to build the capacity of media parctioners and institutions like the Gambia Press Union and individual newspaper houses, in The Gambia and within the sub region.
The NGO shall in the following ways play its role in enhancing the capacity of practioners and institutions

· Help in facilitating the registration of radio stations, televisions stations and newspapers.
· Network with media organizations world over in the training of journalists within the Gambia and those in the sub-region e.g. Guinea Bissan, Liberia and Sierra Leon
· Media Agenda will at all times lobby law makers and politicians in the area of formulation of media laws.
· d).It will help build institutional capacity of national media organization within the sub-region e.g The Gambia, Guinea Bissan, Cape Verde, Liberia and Sierraleaon.
· It will develop the prestige and enhance the social role of journalists and other media workers, as well as endeavor at all times to maintain the standard of the profession.
· The NGO shall all the time forge closer collaboration with other media organizations and institutions within and abroad.
· The Media Agenda will among other functions try to bring government and the private media face to face in order to dialogue

Media Agenda, a non political and profit making body is principally concern with the development of media, it shall collaborate with other media organizations in the world.

Media Agenda shall facilitate in the assessment of training needs of media institutions at national and international levels. The NGO shall also help in providing training modules based on the needs of the country, or media organizations.

Media Agenda will at all time be willing to cooperate with any individual or organization at national or international level in providing technical assistant to the media community.

The NGO have a director, deputy director, Administrative Assistant, an Accounts clerk, Research and data manager, a head of training and institutional capacity building, a Secretary and an office hand.

FUNCTIONS & DUTIES OF MANAGEMENT

1. DIRECTOR: He or she shall be the head of Media Agenda vested with the powers of hiring and firing of staff, he or she shall be a signatory to the accounts of the NGO. The director has the function of directing the affairs of the NGO. He/she shall at all times represent the Media Agenda at meetings within or out side of the country, and shall in the event where he/she cannot personally attend such meetings, nominate any senior member of the management to represent the NGO at such functions.
2. DEPUTY DIRECTOR: He /she also double as the Administrative Assistant: shall act in the absence of the director. The Admin Assistant is the head of the administration, and all other senior management officials are answerable to him or her.
3. RESEARCH & HEAD OF DATTA: This official is third in command heads the research arm of the NGO. He / she shall be responsible of research in general as far as Media Agenda is concern. A data base has to be developed and properly maintained at all times.
4. HEAD OF TRAINING &INSTITUTION CAPACITY BUILDING: This officer shall be responsible of the training and institutional capacity building of media organizations and mainly responsible for planning assessment and implementation.
5. PERSONEL ASSISTANT: She or he shall be the principal assistant to the directorate. The person shall be directly answerable to the director and his absence to the deputy director. The PA will play the role of a senior secretary. handling mails and will at some points do some secretarial duties.
6. ACCOUNTANT, he or she shall be directly responsible of keeping the account of the NGO – he /she shall be under the direct supervision of the Admin Assistant/deputy director.
7. SECRETARY/ RECEPTION who shall always be a lady will be responsible of all incoming calls and mails. She shall also be the typist.
8. OFFICE HAND. Who shall always be a male- double as messages and office boy-who should be responsible of the tidier of the office of the media agenda office?
