About us
The Levendale Singers were formed in April 1980 at Levendale School on the Levendale Estate, Yarm which is situated just above the River Leven, hence the name The Levendale Singers. It began under the leadership of a local bank manager with twelve members. From this time onwards the choir has gone from strength to strength in balance of parts, performance and popularity with membership averaging 40.
The choir is a member of the National Federation of Music Societies (NFMS) and a Registered Charity. The society is run by a committee consisting of chairman, secretary, treasurer, conductor, NFMS representative – who are the officers of the choir – and several other members of the choir. The committee, other than the conductor and NFMS Representative, is elected annually from the body of the choir, all of whom are eligible to stand after having been member for a minimum of a year.

Recording Benjamin Britten - A Ceremony of Carols
The choir sings a wide variety of a popular nature including songs from the shows, religious pieces, folk songs and classical pieces. Recent concerts have included selections from Les Miserables, Disney films, Oliver and settings of well-known religious and secular pieces. We sing an average of eight concerts a year, including an annual fund raising concert and an annual Christmas concert. In 2013 and 2014 we sang - appropriately dressed in Victorian constume - in the street in Preston Hall Museum, Eaglescliffe.
The proceeds of the annual spring concert are retained by the choir and put towards the purchase of new music and the running costs of the choir. All other concerts are sung on behalf of charities and good causes.
