3rd GENERATION
George Kitson - born 1829 - died 26th July 1905
George was the third born to Joseph and Elizabeth and by far the most productive of the family.
Born in 1829 in Siddal and most likely Siddal Hall, he was a very active lad as the 1901 census shows him living at 6 Siddal Lane with most of his family yet the burial record shows him 4 years later dying at Lower Grove Farm, that of his father Joseph.
George married Margaret Wood on the 15th November 1854 in the Parish Church, Halifax. Margaret was born in 1832 in Halifax and unfortunately dies on 30th May 1856 only two years into their marriage from phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis). Only one child, William born April 1855 - died 27th May1856.
On the 4th November 1857 he marries Mary Hall. Mary was born in 1828 in Halifax. There is a son, Jonathan William Gill HALL recorded as living at Lower Albion Street with mom Mary Hall, born on 30th October 1854 three years before she marries George, and there is no father mentioned on the birth certificate and Mary was a spinster when marrying George. They had six children:-
Jonathan William, 1853- 1913 -- Arthur Lewis, 1858 - 1931 -- Lily, 1859 - 1860
Margaret Lily, 1861 - 1947 -- George Harry, 1863 - 1863 -- Joe Harry, 1865 - 1865
It can be seen from the birth and death years of Lily, George Harry and Joe Harry that these children died in infancy. Arthur lewis and Margaret Lily were the only children to marry and have one child each of their own.
Mary died on 6th May 1866 and is buried in Stoney Royd Cemetery with many of the previous wives and Joseph.
On the 13 May 1871 he marries Elizabeth Brooks Townend, Elizabeth was born in Doncaster on 29 July 1842 to a family who were potato merchants and her mothers maiden name was Brooks, and on the marriage certificate John Townend was deceased and had been a greengrocer and they were living at Range Bank in Halifax.
They had nine children:-
