About Kilbarchan

Kilbarchan is a village and civil parish in the heart of Renfrewshire, in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. The village's name means "Cell (chapel) of St. Barchan". Inhabitants of Kilbarchan are informally known as "Habbies" after the famous village piper Habbie Simpson.  It is a conservation village, with approximately 115 listed buildings and a wealth of history that stems from its association with the weaving industry. It has a population of approximately 3,266, covering approximately 20 Square Miles. It is an active village with a church, girl guide and scout groups, a primary school, and community nursery, a pipe band, a performing arts centre, the annual Lillias day parade and entertainment in the park. It has all the necessary shops and services such as a supermarket, newsagents, post office, pharmacy, chiropodist, dentist, beautician, hairdressers, a café and two pubs, and several community venues and halls.
