Rannoch history

Study of historical documents and maps can tell us a great deal about the past in Rannoch district. There are a large number of accounts, dating to the Medieval and Post-Medieval periods, relating to the feuds between different clans. Much of the history of these periods relates to the clans who were most prominent in the area: the Robertsons, Stewarts, Menzies, MacGregors, MacDougalls, MacDonalds, Camerons and those nearby such as the Campbells. Much of the history of the district is available in ‘A History of Rannoch’, written by local historian A.D. Cummingham.
