It was great to welcome a delegation from the UK to Jamaica, hosted by the Special Needs Unit and the Region 5 Team.
Our guests included: Graham Hardy, Head Teacher Calthorpe School and Sports College in Birmingham UK and Assistant Head Teacher Rhys Hancock, along with Liz Millman, Co-ordinator of the Widening Horizons Programme and Spicy Fingers, who is a Jamaican poet based in Birmingham.
The team met Miss June Hamilton and colleagues from the Special Education Unit in Kingston and visited a number of Special Schools in Kingston and Windsor Special School in Region 6.
The Woodlawn Special School put on a fabulous Reception for the UK team and have forged a strong links with Calthorpe Schooland Sports College.
Mrs Liz Millman followed a busy schedule of meetings to review and discuss ways forward for the "Widening Horizons" Programme, to explore ways to use the experience gained from the years of linking with UK schools through the British Council to change the focus to Jamaican led International Schools Links Programme based on Jamaican school curriculum needs.
