I agree the book is a good plan, and sounds feasible.
I had a brainstorm about the launch, but I think let's keep it simple as you propose, and complete each stage within the plan.
Thanks for giving me freedom of choice to write Liz. It is a good time to summarise this journey in the context of my recent explorations regarding invisible bilingualism/multilingualism within African/Caribbean diaspora groups. I have since made some more useful academic contacts and good networks.
Nothing like a deadline to get things done: let's have a date for first drafts soon?
I'm happy to be a part of editorial group.

I've had some great responses already and yes, that's a good idea, Steve, see below, and thanks for your encouragement, offers and ideas, Garfield, Gus, Tony and Moqapi.

I thought we could probably take these steps:
1 contact organisations and people initially to alert folks and get some feedback : I've done this and getting positive constructive feedback
2 establish an editorial group to move this forward: Steve, Garfield, Natalie and Audrey, with me as well! are you all up for this?
3 I don't mind trying to formulate an order of chapters and who might write what for you to consider. I'll do this over the next few weeks, but I'd like you to start to thinking about what you'd like to write, if anything. Garfield, you might like to write a forward, Steve you might like to write an introductory chapter to set the scene. Audrey, you choose what you want to write and how you want to wrote. Natalie, you are key to the whole thing, but perhaps you could write what you want about your passion for your language when you were growing up and can you write in Jumiekan and English? Then I'll write about the work at the College. We'll write at the end or beginning about the organisations involved: JLU, Jamaica 2000, Institute of Linguists, City College Birmingham and give individuals an introductory paragraph.
4 I've set up a website so the contributions can be stored www.spanglefish.com/jabook
5 I'll start seek out funding / sponsorship support: Big Lottery, JN, other ideas?
6 Garfield will you think about co publishers and promotion, and the printing logistics? I included Pansy in the original email, wondered if she might be interested with Arawak Publications.
7 Steve, will you think about the DVD to go with it?
8 I'll just try to keep everything going. It's partly depending on getting the money needed, but we need to record the story anyway, so I hope we can just get on with it and get it done this year.
We can approach Aloun Assamba to write a forward I'm sure.
Natalie can you translate into Jamaican: "Jamaican - Our beautiful language" or perhaps "Our unique language" I'll use this for the title page on the website. Or whatever you think might be better.
Hope this all sounds sensible!

Greetings to you all!
Apologies if it's been a while since I have been in touch, but I have now relocated to Australia as my base, to be with my daughter and gorgeous granddaughter, Matilda, aged 2 now.
However I still spend time in UK and plan to come over to Jamaica in June this year, to catch up with friends and pick up some projects I left hanging!
The new project on the stocks for "Jamaica 2000" is to co-ordinate the production of a book to be the document recording the activities we generated to support the recognition of Jamaican as a language.
The book is a gift really, not a money making venture, rather a way of thanking and recognising all those who supported our efforts and to tell the story for those still working to promote Jamaican as a language.
We plan to get some funds to enable us to pull together the stories and present the book as chapters of papers and interviews about the story. We would like to invite all of you to contribute, as well as the Bible Society and others who you feel I might have left out in my first attempt to move this lovely idea forward. I have been part of editorial teams who have put books together in the past, so I'll brush up my skills and welcome others who would like to be a part of the Editorial Team. Essentially I think our role will be agreeing / accepting the focus of your contribution and sorting out the order to present contributions in.
I don't intend this to be an arduous task, rather a great opportunity to be working together again to reflect on and share what was a pretty amazing story!
So, please let me know if you are interested to contribute and any ideas you have. Some of you have already written pieces eg Gus, your chapters in "Taking a Stand" and if it's OK for us to use them with credits, it will mean we don't have to re-invent the wheel.
Also to set the context, then perhaps something from your book Pauline, "Language in Jamaica". I also still have the teaching materials you wrote.
We will need poets and writers to offer items written in Jumiekan, so Yasus perhaps we can include Patwa Talkin? I am sure you will let us include some of your poetry Joan, with reference as well to Miss Lou's inspiration. Also there is that great preface in one of your books by Hubert Devonish.
We also need some humour, so I am including you Tony! That film footage you did ages ago is still going strong! So perhaps a DVD should be included!
Anyway, one step at a time.
When I hear from you and feel there is sufficient support for this idea, then I will seek out some funding / sponsorship. Let me know if you have ideas. I will definitely approach the Big Lottery in the UK as they supported the Caribbean Languages conference series in 2003ish.
