Ansó, 6 November

The first snow of the winter! Snow fell through the night in Ansó, drifts of flakes illuminated by the streetlights (streetlights are something we are still not really used to!), settling lightly on the rooftiles and the neatly-tilled ground of our neightbour's garden, but not on the damp streets. Higher up though - over about 1400 m - the hills turned slowly white, creating quite a surprisingly stark line with colour below and monochrome above. In the late morning we went off up the valley in search of snow; we even had an optimistic sledge in the car..... We didn't find sledging conditions, but did manage to get up into some lovely winter beechwoods, but the girls were unenthusiastic once it became clear we were walking rather than sledging!
