The first day of rain…… Clouds have been building all day, scattering plump, tantalising drops on the parched ground. This afternoon the storm broke. Constant thunder rattling around the perimeter of the valley, and rain crashing down in waves that bounced back from the roofs and walls in fountains of spray. The cobbled streets turned to rivers. It is a change to live somewhere where rain is exciting……
Today Rowan’s class had to write a secret note for the teacher to say who they wanted to sit next to. Rowan wrote Elia, and she ‘just happened’ to see Elia’s paper and Elia had written Rowan.
I put Jake on the bus to Zaragoza airport to catch a plane to London, then dashed frantically round Jaca trying to find all the complicated items the girls need for school: two different types of set square, compasses, fluorescent pens, scissors, glue, biros in three colours, special tape for correcting mistakes, scientific calculator (?! – seems rather excessive at Iona’s age. At least Rowan only needed a basic one), pads of squared paper and files and goodness know what else. Then signed them up for swimming lessons: Iona is an Orca, Rowan a Piranha. Yikes……
