Emergency appeal for Gaza.
The Trust has been supporting the Christian Lighthouse School ( Al Minara in Arabic) for nearly 20 years. The school is in a very poor part of Gaza City and is situated between the Anglican Ahli Hospital and the Orthodox Church compound - both have been bombed and hundreds killed already. The school is standing but damaged by bomb blasts. We know the homes of two teachers have been destroyed, we suspect there will be more. We are sure many of the families of the 250 children will be seriously affected too by the bombing. And now the threat of genocide with the 2.3 million inhabitants deprived of water, food, fuel and medical supplies.
We can do little at present during this war except pray but when the fighting stops there are going to be tremendous needs. We, in the Trust will focus carefully our support on the staff and the families of the school helping them in whatever way we can to rebuild their lives - supporting costs of temporary housing/shelter, buying furniture for apartments and even clothes where homes were destroyed, paying medical expenses for the injured, providing counselling for traumatised children, repairing the damaged school building. We have safe and secure procedures for making this happen and for channeling funds in the right way.
