We have been busy over the winter researching and writing, and have sourced material which covers events on the home front as well as a yet more expanded list of names of men who served.
In addition, trawling through newspaper coverage has provided information about military tribunals, and the applications by farmers and individual workers for exemption from conscription in order to keep up farm production and maintain food supplies.
We have also been exploring the fascinating history of the Russley Park remount depot, run entirely by women - another example of how the war touched the lives of the whole population.
A number of descendants have contacted us with photos and other artifacts, but there remain some men about whom we have found little or no information. This will be covered in our next post, which will appear somewhat sooner than this one!
