HIPPO's Head South
12 August 2008

A convincing win in round 3 of the NE Division of the Scottish Young Athlete League secured TEAM HIPPO a place in the Scottish Final on the 17th August in Grangemouth.  94 Athletes have been selected to represent the Highland and Island Team in this the first year they have entered the league.

After 3 strong North East League Match wins throughout the summer the composite team for the final boast representatives from all of the HIPPO Clubs: Caithness AAC, East Sutherland AC, Inverness Harriers AC, Moray Road Runners, Nairn AAAC, North Uist AAC, Orkney AC, Ross County AC, Shetland AC and Stornoway RAC.

The first and second place teams from this weekends final will gain a place in the British and auxillary finals respectively.  TEAM HIPPO have their feet firmly on the ground though and they know that it will take a strong team with top performances to be in the running for the UK finals.

HIPPO, Highland and Islands Performance Participation Opportunity, a concept originally borne from visits to North and Western Isles and through discussion with Highland clubs, is the brainchild of Regional Coaches Tracy Tamijmarane (Throws) and Charlie Forbes (Endurance).  HIPPO is an innovative competition structure that allows clubs to overcome such barriers as transport costs to increase local opportunities for athletes to compete.  For more information on TEAM HIPPO and all other aspects of HIPPO please visit www.gohippo.co.uk.  We wish the team all the best for this weekends competition.
