Automatic Garage Doors                                      logo

What to consider when considering new garage doors

  • How much space do you have in front of the door?
  • How much storage space do you require inside the garage?
  • Do you have gas/electricity meters, shelfs etc behind the garage door?
  • Do you want an automatic opener?
  • Can you fit one or two cars through the door opening?
  • What material do you want your door made from?
  • What style/design do you want?
  • What size do you want

canopy typeCanopy up & over

This type of door is suitable for single sizes up to 8 Feet wide (2438mm) and can be supplied with either a 60mm or 70mm steel frame. When opened, the door forms a ‘canopy’ with roughly one third of the door outside the garage. This has traditionally been the most popular type of lifting gear in the UK and Ireland as it can be installed quickly, with all fixings made only on the frame. This has no tracks protruding into the garage space leaving you with more storage space and less need to worry about obstacles such as electricity and gas meters. This type of door is suitable for single sized doors only. We do not provide canopy doors with automatic openers.

retractableRetractable up & over

This type is suitable for single and double doors up to 16'Feet wide (4867mm) and can be supplied with a 70mm steel frame. Single sizes are easier to open and close manually than the canopy option. They use horizontal tracks to support the door in the open position. It is the ideal opening mechanics for remote control electric operation and is the standard lifting gear for double sized doors. Typically, tracked gear takes slightly longer to install than canopy gear as the tracks must be secured to a suitable wall or ceiling joist inside the garage. It retracts almost completely into the garage when opened.

Sectional doors are growing in popularity as homeowners look for high security and insulation to keep the garage as an extra room rather than a home for the car.

Jointed door panel sections with nylon rollers run along vertical tracks and then fully into the garage ceiling meaning the full drive through width and height can be obtained .

With a straight vertical opening and closing, there is no out swing or arc of travel as the door moves. This means that you can park your car right up to the door both inside the garage and on the driveway (ideal for short driveways).

roller Roller Type

Roller doors open vertically and form a compact roll in the headroom above the door allowing overhead and wall storage space to be accessed. As they do not kick out they are ideal for short driveways and where the car is parked close to the door, either infront or inside. These doors can be manual or automatic and offer a high degree of secuity and reliability. Headroom requirement means that they cannot always be fitted as the roll can take up to 400 mm of headroom. However we do have compact automatic models requiring only 200mm of headroom and these can be fitted internally as well as externally behind or within the structural opening.
