Hebburn Metro Swimming Club was formed in 1967 the same year Hebburn Pool opened and has had several County swimmers. In 1979  the council brought in a professional coach and South Tyneside Club was formed with many of our swimmers moving to the new club.

We are a small friendly swimming club  which teach children to swim from an early age, as we know children learn at different paces and as part of ASC National plan for teaching Swimming (NPTS)  one of the first things is to get the children used to the water and build up water confidence and  teach children that learning to swim can be fun and exciting and they can learn more and more over time.

Shirley Jobling is our main teacher on the Small Pool and with her help the children learn to swim in a happy atmosphere.

The Kellogg’s ASA Awards

We have  a "learn to swim" scheme based around the A.S.A awards,  these awards are Designed to support and complement the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) the awards help to reward your child for the hard work he or she puts into learning to swim. Our main aim in the learner pool is to make sure children can learn to swim unaided children will remain in the learner pool until they have reached a minimum age of 8 years and have reached the standard required for the Main Pool, children will then  be introduce gradually to the main pool and may to continue to be taught in both pools from time to time  and when a child is moved permanently in the Main pool they will begin  with their coaching, Where the emphasis will be changed from teaching to coaching. Once in the main pool they will be taught all the techniques required to produce competent swimmers, who can progress to the main onto competitive swimming If this is the path they choose

Poolside helpers or anyone who could help with Committee duties are always needed, so if you think you could do one of these UNPAID jobs, don’t be afraid to enquire.

Parents please try to remember not to distract your child/children in the water as this makes teaching harder when children are not listening and end up disrupting the class. It also isn’t fair on other children in the class who want to learn

ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS
ARE VOLUNTARY.THIS MEANS IN NO WAY DO THEY GET PAID
