How-To-Tips

Protecting The Sink
When you are washing a heavy pot in the sink and you don't have a protective rubber mat, just place some wooden spoons under the pot to protect the sink from scratches or chips.

Dryer Sheets
Dryer sheets have caused many dryers to either burn out the heating unit or cause a fire by blocking the filter. Even though you clean out the lint filter every time you use the dryer, there is a build-up of residue from the dryer sheet that sticks to the mesh and cannot be seen. The coating is invisible to the naked eye. Try running water through the mesh filter and if the water will not go through easily it may be partially or completely blocked and you will see the problem for yourself. Use an old toothbrush every 3 months to clean the screen and you will see the difference. This will lower your electric bill, make the dryer more effcient and protect your property.

Kitchen Oil Spill
When you spill oil on the kitchen floor it can be quite a mess to clean up. So next time it happens, just sprinkle a thick layer of flour on the area and wait a few minutes for the flower to absorb the oil. Use a dustpan and a broom to clean up the flour, then spray the area with a degreaser window cleaner and wipe up the balance with paper towels.

How To Sharpen The Blades Of A Garbage Disposer
To sharpen the blades of a garbage disposer, just place 4-5 ice cubes into the disposer, and rub it for a few seconds. This should be done done once a month if the disposer is used regulary. To freshen it, grind lemon peels in it.

Stuff Those Bags
Use an empty cardboard paper towel holder to hold your plastic supermarket bags and just remove them as needed. This will eliminate the mess.

Burner Protection
Next time you brown meat or pan fry on the stovetop, try placing inverted (upside down) aluminum pie plates over the burners to protect them from the splattering grease. The pie tins can easily be cleaned.

Remove Hairline Cracks On China
To remove hairline cracks on china plates or cups is to simmer the cup or plate in milk for 45 minutes. Depending on the size of the crack the protein (casein) in the milk will fill in the crack.
