Customisation

What is custom fitting ?

Custom fitting is a process that matches the clubs with your individual needs, it can be used to:

  • tailor your physical dimensions to the clubs (taller / shorter / hands etc)
  • nullify a consistent swing fault on impact
  • encourage the correct technique
  • eliminate a specific shot from your game

We aim to ensure you deliver the club face squarely to the ball on each shot, you are unlikely to be doing this with a standard set bought "from the rack".

Who needs custom fitting ?

The correct and honest answer to this is everyone from the beginner to the professional Golfer.  Low handicap players and professionals may need to tweak their game slightly and use a shaft that matches their swing speed and tempo.  The novice and beginner will certainly need well fitting equipment as a base with which they can build their game on.  The higher handicappers will benefit by the adjustments to angles and shafts that will eliminate repetitive swing errors and that all too common wayward shot.

Will I need to buy some more clubs ?

In the main no you will not.  There will always be an exception to the rule as some people may well be playing with clubs that are just not up to the job.  We are here to ensure your current clubs are fit for purpose and tailored to meet your needs whether they were bought from a reputable Golf outlet or used in the local paper it makes no difference to us.  All we care about is ensuring your clubs are right for you.

Below are some examples of what happens where clubs are ill fitting and damaging your game and scorecard:

Shafts too flexible

  • Ball flight will go high, frequent hooking and inconsistency

Shafts too stiff

  • Ball flight will remain low with poor distance and weak shots to the right

Clubs too long

  • Fat shots with inconsistent striking and falling away on impact

Clubs too short

  • Thinned low shots often falling forwards on impact and knees that suffer excess flex

Lie too flat

  • Missing to the right, over use of grip often too tight and hand movement.  (see above picture)

Lie too upright

  • Ball flight to the left, weaker grip with a disliking for tight lies. (see above picture)

At this point it is important you remember online fitting is fine in terms of measurements but it does not allow for your individual movement through the ball.  That is why we come to you to ensure your shots will be successful.

All Golf manufacturers work to different settings each varying a degree or two so this is why you often find a few clubs in the set that you don't get along with and one or two that you do.  It is perfect by sheer fluke in manufacturing for your individual specifications. You absolutely must not allow yourself to fall into the streotypical Golfer when this happens and immediately take the clubs you don't get on with up the range and change your grip, stance, swing in order to hit them sweetly.... Get them adjusted to the same spec as the ones you do get on with !

Consultation Process

Our Wood and Iron sessions as a rule take up to two hours, but in truth we will spend as much time with you as is necessary to ensure we have your goals, priorities, your tuition plans and injuries or disabilities in order to match your clubs to you and your budget. The process will include a detailed analysis of your current set taking into consideration the grips, shafts, heads, weight and even preferred ball of choice.  It is a full MOT of your current set to see if it is fit for purpose and fit for you all done in your own surroundings.

The Build

We have an established network of suppliers which enables us access to all the major clubheads, shafts and grips currently out there in the market place where these components are put together in our custom built workshop to the highest standards with the highest tolerances.

This is key given the wide range of tolerances adopted by different companies and no real boundaries on categories of flex.  In the main you will not require a rebuild, it will be a simple loft and lie change to your current set. Perhaps some new grips adjusted to suit your hand size but we do have the mix of science and skill to develop and hand craft a set of clubs if you so wish that matches your needs and budget.

Recommendations

In keeping with the personal approach at every stage of our service, our recommendations will be the result of the in depth analysis which we extracted from the consultation meeting.  This as stressed earlier will include your priorities, goals and budget.

In the simplest form we may conclude that the current set you are using is fit for purpose given your ambitions and budget, but in the main it will be a loft and lie degree change, perhaps a swingweight re-calibration and a grip change to suit your hand size. More substantial changes can come with a shaft change to a couple of clubs to enhance performance, playability and feel.
