The course will begin with an introduction to the materials involved and an explanation of the spiral rope stitch. This is a super technique that once learnt, you will return to, over and over again.  To start the workshop, Jenny will teach you the basic stitch to make a simple spiral rope bracelet, before moving on to demonstrate how the stitch can be adapted using different beads to produce varying effects. Following on from that using seed beads, pearls and crystals you will produce a flat spiral bracelet, this is a variation of the spiral stitch - it is a stunner!  All tools and equipment will be provided but there will be a small charge for materials.

Pointillism - 23/24 July  Fee £95

Georges Seurat (1859-1891) French post-Impressionist painter is noted for devising the technique known as Pointillism.  He altered the direction of Modern Art by initiating Neo Impressionism. While Impressionists used small dabs of paint as part of their technique, Pointillism took this to the next level using only small distinct dots of pure colour applied in patterns to form an image and create an entire painting. This technique relies on the ability of the eye and mind to blend colour into fuller tones.  Students will be instructed in how to complete a small picture using the pointillist technique.  You will need to bring a 12” canvas, acrylic paints, brushes sizes 0, 2, 6 and 9, plus a picture of your favourite animal.

Tutor

Dee Roberts studied at Gloucester College of Art where she found a love of pen and ink as a medium.  She adapted the use of small dots to produce her work, experimenting with watercolours, gouache, oils and eventually acrylics.  After taking time out for several years for family reasons, she has returned to her art with direction to produce her best works on wildlife in acrylics using a technique loosely based on pointillism.
