OUR AIMS

Set up in 2000 Friends of Compton Bishop Church (FCBC) is an independent trust formed to raise money exclusively for the maintenance, repair and improvement of St Andrews church, Compton Bishop and its churchyard. It is well supported by the community and regular fund raising events take place throughout the year. It also exists to encourage greater interest by all members of the community, whether churchgoing or not, in the splendid heritage of this Grade 1 listed building.

For over 700 years this church has represented a tradition of continuous worship and has been an essential part of our community’s history. It continues this tradition and is much visited by those tracing their ancestors and by those who come to enjoy this beautiful area. The Visitor’s Book in the church is a clear indication of people’s pleasure in finding the church open.

The fabric of the church building has been cared for by previous generations, however maintenance and repairs of such a building have become increasingly expensive. To ensure this care continues into the future and the building is sustained for future generations we must meet the challenges of raising the necessary funds.

So far the charity has raised approximately £59,000 and donated more than £18,000 covering a wide range of maintenance and repairs, thus meeting our twin aims of grants towards repairs whilst building a reserve to meet future needs.
