Born in London, I’ve lived most of my life in Thameside Essex – not the pretty bit. In my youth (and in Wales which I
love) I studied to become a Chartered Librarian, and began and ended my working life in Public Libraries, mostly in
services to young people and education. There were breaks including a time lecturing, and, most importantly to me,
as a writer. [Red Moon and Black Mountain; The Grey Mane of Morning; When Voiha Wakes; The High Kings} For
some years I ran a Youth Theatre group ‘The Hollow Circle’ , which was a wonderful experience. We moved to
Gateshead in August 2009 and I joined Explore in October. I consider it one of the best things that ever happened to
me, for the stimulus it gives and the friendships I have formed. Its loss would be a tragedy, and I have felt privileged
to play a part in its continuance through Joseph Cowen Lifelong Learning Centre. Long may it live!
