Dyke Scarecrow Festival 2014

Photo opportunity: 12pm onwards Sat 20th Sept, Dyke & 12pm Sun 21st Sept, Dyke Village Hall

Residents of Dyke (one mile north of Bourne) are welcoming visitors to the village on the weekend of 20th and 21st September, as they hold the first Dyke Scarecrow Festival to celebrate the end of the harvest season. A variety of creative, handmade scarecrows will be on public display as residents compete in what they hope will be an annual scarecrow contest. The contest will be judged by local farmer, William Ash, and the prize fund has been donated by The Wishing Well Inn, who will be joining in the festivities.

Brenda Johnson, chair of Dyke Village Hall Committee, said "We're looking forward to our first scarecrow festival and we encourage people to come to Dyke to take a look at the spectacular creations that will be on display. We hope to make this an annual event in which the community can give thanks for the harvest and simply have a bit of fun.

"If anyone outside of Dyke would like to get involved, they can still enter the competition and display their scarecrow outside the village hall."

Scarecrows will be on display from the morning of Sat 20th, to be judged at 12pm. Entrants will be competing for the first prize of £25 and runners-up prizes of £15 and £10. Local farmer, William Ash will award the prizes at 12pm on Sunday 21st in Dyke Village Hall. Visitors are welcome to the prize giving where light refreshments will be provided. Those keen to continue the celebrations can head down to The Wishing Well Inn for a drink or bite to eat and might even be in the company of the odd scarecrow!

Entry form for the scarecrow competition can be downloaded from this website. All entries must be received by Friday 19th September at 5pm.
