OUT AND ABOUT

With hotels, guesthouses, bed & breakfasts, self catering cottages and a campsite, the Dunvegan area offers a full range of accommodation options.

We also have two well stocked shops; one a full shelved licenced grocer, the other providing fresh fruit and vegetables. There is a highly popular restaurant (booking advisable), two hotels, cafe bistro, mobile snack bar, a patisserie, and Dunvegan also boasts the oldest bakery on the island.

These local family businesses offer everything in the way of food and drink, from local prawns to takeaway fish and chips, from freshly baked filled rolls to home made soups, from light meals to fine dining. The world famous Three Chimneys is but two miles away, on the other side of Loch Dunvegan.

Dunvegan Castle the home of the Clan MacLeod, half a mile from the village, has wooded walks, seal boat trips, gardens, cafe and gift shop. The white sands of the Coral Beaches are well worth the 20 minute walk from Claigan.

There are art and crafts studios, photographic galleries and a selection of gifts on sale at the friendly local post office. Watercolours, screen prints, engravings, jewellery, glazed tiles. Scarves, handweaves, tartan handbags. Jams, fudge, cakes, artisan bread, shortbread and chocolates. Many gifts are made locally, all are made on Skye.

A family run garage will keep your car on the road, and the filling station will keep you topped up with petrol. There are also sports facilities for hire at the community hall. With a primary school, three churches, a doctors' surgery and dentist, we think we can offer almost anything you could ever hope for in one small scenic village!
