Dundreggan Rewilding Centre

July 6th was our outing to Dundreggan Rewilding Centre. This was to be our Summer Outing with more to see and do than a just a walk. We had a good look around the new Visitor Centre with help and information from the friendly staff where we learned much about the ‘Trees for Life’ Group and their rewilding activities.

Then, we walked.  There are 4 marked routes to choose from, called Juniper, Oak, Pine and Heather. From gentle, wide, smooth paths to quite steep and narrow and high up the hillside, members made their choices and set off – not exactly the best of summer weather for a Summer Outing but warm and not too wet. ‘Wet and warm’!!  Yes – the midges liked it too, but we were prepared with creams and sprays! We took our lunches with us and ate sitting on some of the many seats dotted around from which we could admire the beautiful  views of Glen Moriston.  There are many signs along the way pointing to what we could see - trees, buildings, flowers and the waterfall, and signs of what we might see - like the animals, flowers and birds which come at different seasons.

On return to the Centre we had a snack together in the Café and compared notes on what had been seen – wildlife or the Waterfall, the state of the paths, the height the juniper grew - more like a forest than a shrubbery. Most members had not been before but some plan to come back with friends to do the walks they hadn’t done. All enjoyed their day very much.
